Vandals struck the Mamou ballpark as the 2015 12U Pony League World Series Championship sign was spray painted.
Chief of Police Brent Zackery reported Wednesday evening that the vandals had been detained and questioned thanks to his assistant chief Phyllis Soileau and Officer Johnny Freeman.
“Officers went out and asked a couple of people,” Chief Zackery commented about the investigation. “Tips came in, and it just led us to a couple juveniles. We were able to question them with their parents and found out exactly what happened.”
“After doing the investigation, there were four juveniles, two males and two females, that were questioned,” the chief said. “We found out they were the ones that vandalized the sign. Thank God we hit it hard this morning, and we ended up getting the answers needed to make an arrest.”
According to Chief Zackery, the juveniles “found some paint in the dugout, and they went and sprayed over the sign.”
A bathroom at the park was also struck. “They went in and kicked the door frames down and just kind of kicked up a couple of things,” Zackery said.
Zackery also said that the juveniles’ parents were also charged in connection with the incident. “The parents were charged with improper supervision.”
The chief called the acts “very unnecessary.” He said, “This kind of thing is not something we’re gonna tolerate at all.”
