Minister’s Corner: The inevitability of the church

Karl Barth once said, “The world we confront today is aggressively pagan. Many influences in modern life work to undermine the Christian view and subtly convert even the church people from an outright Christian faith. The only adequate answer is for Christians to recover the New Testament power of spiritual aggression.” He easily could have been preaching to our generation.

Contrary to what some people are advocating, our nation is at a spiritual low, and our culture is spiraling down. But the good news is the kingdom of Christ is still advancing. Though scandals may have rocked the church in recent years, Christ’s blood has not lost its power to cleanse. His name has not lost its power to save. His word has not lost its power to conquer. And for those who are doubters, know the church will inevitably rise to trample the gates of hell as Christ foretold. Listen once again with hope to what Christ said, as is recorded in Matthew 16:18, “...I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Hallelujah!
