MPD charges two after officers witness narcotics transaction on East Street

The Mamou Police Department arrested two after officers witnessed a narcotics transaction take place recently.
Detective Todd Ortis said he and Chief Greg Dupuis often patrol the streets at the end of a work day to look for obstruction of traffic violations. On this occasion, Ortis said he and Dupuis were driving in the 600 block of East Street when they witnessed a car stopped on the road and the driver of the car speaking with another individual standing outside the vehicle.
Ortis said they watched the two men talking and then witnessed the driver being given narcotics and the other male suspect accepting cash. Dupuis and Ortis quickly moved to stop the driver from speeding away and the other male fled on foot.
The driver, Jeremy J. Thomas, 20, 1026 Three Sisters Road, Ville Platte, was arrested and charged with simple possession of marijuana.
The other male, Yarnell Green, 522 East St., Apt. 1, Mamou, was also apprehended after a brief chase and charged with distribution of marijuana.
Green’s bond was set at $10,000 and Thomas’ bond was set at $500.
