Three nooses found

Three nooses were found in the Bayou Chicot area Sunday, May 11, and investigators with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office are following leads.

Captain Keith Dupre, chief of detectives with the sheriff’s office, said nooses were found at two churches, one on the door of Saint James Baptist Church, and the other on a cross at Morning Pilgrim Church. The third noose was located on a transportation sign on state Highway 167.

“We are following leads,” Dupre said. “There was no other damage reported at the churches.”

He said this incident is being taken seriously, and if anyone has any information, they are encouraged to contact Dupre at the sheriff’s office at 363-2161. All callers will remain anonymous.
