Guillory crowned Tournoi champion for the second consecutive year

As the day of the Tournoi de la Ville Platte began on Sunday, October 13, there were reports that the event may have to be called off because heavy rains the night before made the track, and the area around it, muddy and flooded. Also, storms west of Louisiana threatened more of the same.
But as the day progressed, it became clear that the storms would remain over Texas. Organizers decided against postponing the event because work schedules would cause at least some of the riders to miss it.
After an inspection of the Tournoi track and grounds, the decision was made to start the event an hour late, at 3 p.m. The event was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. so that the trophies could be awarded before the sun set.
People driving or walking toward the track had to avoid muddy patches, and places where standing water looked boot deep.
But aside from horses splashing through areas as they gained speed approaching the track, the event went smoothly. And the trophies were awarded minutes before the sun reached the horizon.
The bigger problems came after the event was over and people started driving from the parking area. The tires on at least two trucks spun as the trucks became mired in the mud.
