First Mamou Carnival a success

More than 350 children and their parents were treated to a Community Carnival at the Mamou Recreation Center Wednesday, October 30, organized by members of six area churches and supported by area businesses and the Mamou Police Department. Shown here is one of the 13 booths, which showed how to crochet. Other booths featured religious bingo, face painting, games such as darts, spin-the-wheel, basketball, musical chairs and more. The youngsters also had nachos, hamburgers, hot dogs, cotton candy, snow cones and other treats. Door prizes included a Nintendo DS, a digital camera, MP3 player, and a large Power Wheel truck. Siagona LeBlanc, a member of Word of Faith Church in Mamou, said she was inspired by God to begin work on the Community Carnival about a year ago. Other Mamou churches involved in this year’s event were St. Paul Baptist Church, St. Luke Baptist Church, Zion Traveler Baptist Church and New Life of Mamou. North Eunice Baptist Church of Eunice and Word of Faith Church of Lake Charles also were involved in the event. LeBlanc said members of other ministries can contact her at (337) 580-8746 to become involved in next year’s event.
