Turkey Creek structure fire leads to arson arrest
The Ward Five Fire Protection District of Evangeline Parish responded to a reported structure fire on Earl Deville Road in Turkey Creek on Saturday, January 4, at approximately 11 p.m.
Upon arrival of the fire department, the structure was found to be fully engulfed in fire. During the course of the investigation, it was learned that the fire was more than likely the result of arson stemming from a verbal altercation and threats made earlier the same day.
The suspect, 30-year-old Jeremy B. Clark of Turkey Creek, upon learning of the investigation and subsequent interviews taking place on Sunday, went into hiding. Clark placed a phone call sometime during the evening of Monday, January 6, to investigators stating he wished to turn himself in.
Deputy Louisiana State Fire Marshal Steve Nassif arrested Clark on Tuesday, January 7, and charged him with simple arson.
If found guilty, Clark could face up to a $15,000 fine and not less than two nor more than 15 years imprisonment at hard labor.
The Ward Five Fire Protection District works closely with Louisiana Fire Marshall’s Office and insurance investigators in determining the cause and origin of all fires reported in the district. Intentionally setting fire to another’s property is a crime. Investigators will make every effort to make an arrest and bring these perpetrators to justice.
Bobby Guilbeau, fire chief of the Ward Five Fire Protection District, would like to thank the fire marshall’s office for their assistance in this case. Guilbeau said, “Because of the unwavering support of the men and women of the fire service a property owner can rest better in knowing that justice will be served.”
