4-H Rice and Sweet Potato Cookery winners announced

The 2014 Evangeline Parish Rice and Sweet Potato Cookery Contest was a big success! The contest was held Wednesday, January 8th at the Ville Platte Civic Center. Twenty-six dishes were entered in the Rice and Sweet Potato Contests. The Rice Cookery Contest was sponsored by the Evangeline Parish Rice Growers and the City of Ville Platte, and the Sweet Potato Contest was sponsored by E & L Produce.
Parish winners in the Rice Cookery will represent Evangeline Parish in the Regional 4-H Cookery Contests, which will be held in Crowley in April.
Parish winners in the Rice Cookery were:
Rice Main Dish: Elise Mire, Sacred Heart Elementary sixth grade, with Seafood Casserole.
Rice Side Dish: Benjamin Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade, with Shrimp Rice Salad.
Rice Dessert: Benjamin Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade, with Think Pink Pie.
Parish winners in the Sweet Potato Cookery will represent Evangeline Parish in the Regional 4-H Cookery Contest, which will be held in Alexandria in March.
Parish winners in the Sweet Potato Cookery were:
Sweet Potato Dessert: Victoria Robert, Vidrine Elementary fourth grade, first place, with Mini Sweet Potato Pie; Ella Grace Miller, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade, second place; Elise Mire, Sacred Heart Elementary sixth grade, third place; Josie Lejeune, Mamou Elementary fourth grade, fourth place; and Benjamin Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade, fifth place.
Other Sweet Potato Dishes: Maria LaHaye, Sacred Heart Elementary sixth grade, first place, with Sweet Potato Stack; Lauren Oyster, Basile Elementary sixth grade, second place; Benjamin Fontenot, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade, third place; and Adam Soileau, Vidrine Elementary fifth grade, fourth place.

Blue Ribbon Winner - Callie Pitre, Sacred Heart Elementary eighth grade.
Red Ribbon Winners - Zoey Rider, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade, and Iyana Freeman, Ville Platte High seventh grade.
Rice Side Dish:
Blue Ribbon Winners - Ella Grace Miller, Sacred Heart Elementary fourth grade; and Iyana Freeman, Ville Platte High seventh grade.
Red Ribbon Winner - Maddy Buller, Chataignier Elementary fourth grade.
Rice Dessert:
Red Ribbon Winners - Katherine Bergeron, Sacred Heart Elementary seventh grade; and Victoria Robert, Vidrine Elementary fourth grade.
