Mamou's Cajun Grocery robbed at gunpoint

Mamou police are investigating the armed robbery of the Cajun Grocery store at the corner of Sixth and South streets that took place Wednesday evening.
Police received a call just before 8:30 p.m. from the store. The clerk told police two black men wearing dark clothing and ski masks entered the store, pointed a gun at the clerk and demanded cash.
Two customers were also in the store at the time of the robbery. The two robbers were seen leaving the store on foot.
Mamou police are offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robbers. Assistant Police Chief Katina Richard can be reached at (337) 789-6277 and Detective Marie Potter can be reached azt (337) 789-7555.
Mamou police also report a man was arrested and charged with aggravated battery for stabbing a person after a dance at the town’s skating rink early Sunday, January 5.
Richard was at the skating rink when the victim, accompanied by two woman -- one of them a nurse -- approached her at about 2:30 a.m.
Richard called the officer on duty, who arrived at the skating rink in a patrol car. After Richard and the nurse stopped the bleeding, the police officer drove the victim to Savoy Medical Center. The victim was then transported to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. The victim was stabbed in the left lung area. The stab wound was serious but the victim survived.
Detective Potter said the victim and several witnesses described an altercation between the victim and the person who stabbed him after the dance ended.
Police went to the house at 1012 Hickory Street in Mamouo, where the person identified as the one who stabbed the victim lived, but he was not at the house.
About 3 a.m., Coran Trimble, 17, accompanied by his father in law, arrived at the police station. Trimble was arrested, charged with aggravated battery and transported to the parish jail. His bond was set at $20,000.
