Snow, freezing rain in this week's forecast

Because of expected freezing and snow, all public schools in the parish and Sacred Heart Elementary and High schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. City Hall also will be closed, and Mayor Jennifer Vidrine has issued a travel curfew Tuesday starting at 6 p.m. and ending Wednesday at 6.
The National Weather Service reports 20 percent chance of showers Monday afternoon and a slight chance of rain before midnight. The chance of overnight rainfall is 20 percent and an overnight low of 26 degrees is predicted.
Problems may begin Tuesday, when the NWS forecasts a chance of freezing rain before noon, then snow in the afternoon accumulating from one to three inches, with a high Tuesday temperature of 30 degrees. The forecast calls for accumulation of ice to less than .1 of an inch Tuesday.
There is a 50 percent chance of snow Tuesday night and an overnight low temperature of 17 degrees.
The temperature will rise past the freezing point Wednesday with a forecasted high of 39, and sunny skies. The last sub-freezing temperature is expected overnight Wednesday, with a predicted low of 23 degrees.
