SHHS girls crush Catholic of PC

The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans went into Friday night’s contest against Catholic of Pointe Coupee looking at the playoffs and hoping to improve their standing. They were sitting at the 23rd slot in the unofficial power ratings of Class 1A. Running the table on the remainder of their schedule would surely improve their standings. They got a leg up when they crushed the Lady Hornets of Catholic of Pointe Coupee 53-21.
The Lady Trojans impressed their home crowd with a 12-4 first round slapping. Gabbie Andrepont fired things up early with turnovers and points. She forced two turnovers and converted them to points each time. She went on to lead the SHHS girls with 10 points.
In the second period, the local girls out-shot the visiting team 19-3. Eight different SHHS girls scored in the period. Catherine Poche and Kara Aguillard each hit three points. SHHS took a commanding 31-7 lead into the locker room at the half.
The third period saw both teams score 10 points and no real switch in momentum. It was more a battle of wills as SHHS slowed down the game and the PC girls tried to speed up the game.
In the final block, SHHS put up another 12 points and held the Lady Hornets to just four points.
Poche and Hannah Lemoine each hit seven points in the game.
The Lady Trojans improve to 5-2 in league play and 11-11 overall. They will host Pointe Coupee Central Tuesday night and then travel to St. Ed’s Friday.
