Ville Platte boys blow out Livonia
Just because it is their first season in Class 3A, the Ville Platte Bulldogs are not trying to miss the playoffs or be pushed around. They demonstrated that when they manhandled the Livonia Wildcats in Ville Platte by a score of 77-54.
Ville Platte took the game by storm. They scored 22 points in the first period and they were stout on defense. They held the visiting Wildcats to just 10 points. Ernest Ardoin buried a three-point shot and also hit a pair of jump shots. He went on to a 13-point night for VPHS. Darrien Anderson also pitched in with five points in the period and completed his night with 10 digits.
The second period became a seesaw battle. The Bulldogs were out shot 19-17, but managed to maintain the lead. Livonisa used a few turnovers to get some points on the board, but VPHS would keep pace. Alex Gooden and JaQualen Doucet each buried a three-point shot, while Darren Poullard added a pair of lay-ups off of turnovers.
Despite Livonia’s effort to get back into the game, the Bulldogs maintained a 39-29 lead going into the locker room. Much like the first half began, the second period would feature the Bulldogs hitting some high points on offense. Doucet popped off a trio of shots and went on to lead the local boys with 15 points. Mitchell Seraille added four points of his own, in route to a 14-point night. All in a all, the Bulldogs out scored the Wildcats 18-11 in the third frame.
VPHS held a 57-40 lead as the final block commenced. Seraille rattled three shots through the net and Gooden ripped the net for another three pointer. He completed his day at the office with 12 points. Doucet added four more points to his total when he scored a pair of lay ups off of steals.
The Bulldogs were impressive on both sides of the basketball. The win improves to 12-14 and 4-3 in District 5-3A competition. They will host Church Point tomorrow night at VPHS and then travel to Northwest Tuesday to round out their league schedule.
