Pine Prairie woman charged with debit card theft
The Pine Prairie Police Department received a complaint from a local resident stating that his debit card and personal information had been stolen.
The complainant stated he received a phone call from his bank to let him know there was a problem with his checking account and that suspicious activity was observed via his checking account.
On February 6, after investigating the case, officers and the victim were able to identify Charity Fontenot, 34, as the suspect from the ATM machine that had been used to remove hundreds of dollars from the victim’s account.
Assistant Chief Chuncey Fontenot was notified by Port Barre Police on February 11, that Charity Fontenot was in custody and she was extradited to Evangeline Parish to face charges of unauthorized use of an access card. She is currently being held on a $7,500 bond set by 13th Judicial District Judge John Larry Vidrine.
Pine Prairie Police Chief L.C. Deshotel thanked the Port Barre Police Department and Citizens Bank for assistance in apprehending the suspect. Deshotels also reminds citizens to report suspicious activity to the PPPD at (337) 599-2708.
