Loretta Janet Helmer

Funeral services will be held for Loretta Janet Helmer, 89, of Ville Platte, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in St. Landry at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 8. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Ms. Helmer died Thursday, April 3, 2014, surrounded by her beloved family. Her family meant the world to her, and their well being was always her first priority. She was a kind and loving soul. She enjoyed spending time with her close friends and was an active member of the Catholic Daughters, but her true passion was always her precious family.
Survivors include three beloved sons, George R. Helmer, Jr. and his wife, Mary, of San Jose, California, Robert “Ronnie” M. Helmer and his wife, Jackie, of St. Landry and Kenneth M. Helmer and his wife, Linda, of Kingwood, Texas. Her memory will be carried on by her three grandchildren, Brooke H. Guillory and her husband, Luke, of St. Landry and Matthew R. Helmer and Andrew R. Helmer, both of Kingwood, Texas, and her two great-grandchildren, Addison K. Guillory and Anna Claire Guillory. She will be sadly missed by her brother, Dr. Hansel Janet of Gulfport, Mississippi, and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, George R. Helmer Sr.; her parents, Robert and Frances Bamber Janet Sr.; and her siblings, R.P. Janet Jr. and Eudora J. Helmer.
At the request of the Helmer family, visitation will be held at Ardoin’s Funeral Home of Ville Platte beginning at 4 p.m., Monday, April 7, and will continue until 9 p.m. that evening and will resume at 9 a.m., Tuesday, April 8, at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in St. Landry and continue until the time of the services. A Rosary will be recited in her name at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening.
The family would like to send their sincere gratitude to Prairie Manor Nursing Home, Dr. Tommy Fontenot and his staff and the entire staff of the ICU at Mercy Regional Medical Center, with a special thanks to “Nurse Ivy,” for the excellent care they provided during their mother’s final days.
