30th annual Boggy Bayou Queen crowned
Torian Paige Veillon, the 17-year-old daughter of Kevin and Dalayne Veillon of Ville Platte, was crowned Saturday afternoon, April 5, as Boggy Bayou’s 30th queen. The annual pageant was held during the 30th Annual Boggy Bayou Festival at the fairgrounds April 3-5.
The brown-eyed queen is a junior at Sacred Heart High School. She enjoys traveling, being with her family, hanging out with her friends, learning and experiencing new things, supporting school events and cheering for team sports. She also loves helping and volunteering for charity events, with her ultimate pastime being writing.
Veillon also received the pageant’s Miss Congeniality Award.
Placing as first runner-up to the queen was Kaitlyn LeJeune, the 20-year-old daughter of Kristie Fontenot and Ronald LeJeune of Chataignier. She is currently attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, where she is pursuing a degree in environmental science soil and water.
Jaedyn LaFleur, the reigning Petite Miss Boggy Bayou Queen , served as Queen Abbie Deville’s crown bearer. She is the daughter of Jade and Kasie LaFleur of Pine Prairie.
Senior Boggy Bayou Queen Molly Stelly was a special guest and sat on stage for the pageant.
Capturing the Mrs. Boggy Bayou crown for 2014 was Brittany Bordelon, 23-years old, from St. Landry. She is employed with St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Pine Prairie. She is married to Ben Bordelon and they have two daughters, Lillian and Olivia.
Debra Kaye Eaves, the wife of Bobby Eaves, of Pine Prairie, was named first runner-up in this division. Placing as second runner-up was Stephanie Catoire, the wife of Jimmy Catoire, of Pine Prairie.
Pageant entertainment was provided by 2014 Teen Miss Boggy Bayou Queen Shelbi Rials.
Shane West was crowned 2014 Boggy Bayou King. West was selected by the festival board for “his dedication to the festival over the years.” Following the crowning of the new king, West’s music from his last Boggy Bayou concert was played. He was presented the scepter by Pine Prairie Mayor Terry Savant. Evangeline Parish Clerk of Court Randy Deshotels, who is a former Boggy Bayou King, was on hand for the event.
The queen’s tea, held that morning, was hosted by Mrs. Jackie Guillory in Pine Prairie.
Judging the pageant this year were former Boggy Bayou queens Amy Dupre Dupre’, 1991 Boggy Bayou Queen; Crystal Clark May, 2010 Mrs. Boggy Bayou; and Kasie LaFleur, 2005 Miss Boggy Bayou and 2011 Mrs. Boggy Bayou.
Special thanks was given to 2013 Boggy Bayou Queen Abbie Deville and her parents, John and Deneen Deville of Pine Prairie, for providing the custom-made raccoon crown for the new queen. The Mrs. crown was provided by Pine Prairie Mayor Terry Savant and his wife, Lorraine. Mrs. Bobbie Jo Ardoin donated the queen’s new banner, and Mr. Chris Guillory, of Awards Unlimited, donated the king’s plaque.
Also, special thanks was given to Mr. Ricky Vidrine and Tracey Rials for making and donating a new picture of the late Father Leslie Prescott that is part of the stage scenery.
A very important thank-you was given to Pine Prairie Police Chief LC Deshotel for helping provide security for the festival.
The new queens are eager to represent the festival and Prairie Manor Nursing Home.
