Lady Green Demons win 4-2A
The Mamou Lady Green Demons have a goal of getting back to Sulphur and having a shot at the Class 2A State Championship. Last season, they had a strong season right out of the starting gate, but then faltered a little as the season came to a close.
This year, the Lady Demons began the season with a 10-0 win over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte and never looked back. They were 4-0 before they fell to Many. After that, they went on a six-game winning streak. They are 16-7 on the year with some of their losses coming to Class 5A East Ascension and Class 5A powerhouse Live Oak.
Mamou went on to sweep District 4-2A with a perfect 10-0 record. An 8-2 over DeQuincy was one win that helped to propel the Lady Demons into a position to win the league. They won the crown outright.
In the victory, Amber Manuel earned the win in the circle. She fanned 13 batters in the contest.
Mmaou scored three runs in their first trip to the plate and never looked back. Manuel tripled to center field and scored on a double from Alanah Komorowski. Logan Thomas kept things going with a double. She later came home on a passed ball.
Manuel ended the day with a 3-4 performance at the plate. She nearly hit for the cycle, by hitting a triple, a double and a home run. She only needed a single to complete the cycle. She drove in four runs in the game.
Mamou added four runs in their second trip to the plate. The inning included a grand slam from Manuel.

Mamou got by Welsh by a score of 10-0. Manuel earned the win in the game as well. At the plate, she was 4-4 with four singles and she scored twice. Lauren Soileau went 4-4 at the plate. Mamou’s strong league play was capped with a 2-0 win over Kinder Thursday and they defeated Hackberry, the Class C state champs, 3-0 Tuesday in non-district action.
Mamou should finish somewhere around 10th in Class 2A power ratings. This means they would host a first round game in the playoffs and possibly a second round game. Playoff brackets are expected to be released some time today and will be published in Sunday’s sports section.
