Trojans draw Rams for home opener

After competing in a very tough district, the Sacred Heart Trojans have earned a spot in the Class 1A Baseball Playoffs. The Trojans and Head Coach Cody Vidrine picked up the ninth seed and therefore will host a first round game. The Trojans will host the 24th ranked Rams of West St. John.
For the Trojans, they take a 19-8 record into the post-season. They boasted a league record of 5-3 in a district that has sent four teams to the playoffs.
Sacred Heart is coming off of a big league win over St. Ed’s, who also made the playoffs. The Trojans fell in a non-district game to Kinder, a Class 2A power house. The Trojans held a 4-0 lead going late in the game, before the Yellow Jackets bounced back and scored 11 runs to win the game 11-4.
Sacred Heart welcomes the Rams to SHHS today at 4:30 p.m. The Rams will bring a record of 10-11 to Ville Platte. They competed in District 8-1A and sported a record of 5-5 in league competition. The Rams split their last two games. They lost 6-7 to Ascension Catholic, but rebounded to beat White Castle 8-7.
The winner of the Trojans and Rams will get the winner of eight seeded Mangham and the 25th seed Block.
Mangham will host the Bears in that game. The Dragons are 18-14 on the year and 3-3 in District 2-1A competition. Mangham competed in the same league as top seeded Ouachita Christian. Most recently, the Dragons are coming off of a 10-0 loss to the Cedar Creek Cougars.
Block boasts an 11-11 overall record and put up a 6-4 record in district competition. While the Bears are the 25th overall seed, they have a reputation for pulling off upsets over the last couple of seasons.
The second round game will take place next week, most likely Tuesday’s. If the Trojans win and the Dragons win, the SHHS boys will have to travel to Mangham. If Block pulls the upset, the Trojans will have to travel to Block High School.
