Magnolia Garden Club presents awards
The Garden of the Month and Civic Pride Award of Merit for May was selected by a committee from the Magnolia Garden Club. The recipient of the Garden of the Month honor was the home of Mark and Annette Fontenot, and the Civic Pride Award was presented to Bella Salon and Spa. The Fontenot residence features two large live oak trees in the front yard and two in the rear garden, providing a beautiful setting for the house surrounded by flower beds. The flowers featured in the beds include shasta daisies, pink and red roses, red, orange and pink lilies, red salvia, variegated coleus and several colors of impatiens. Annette’s favorite flowers are lilies. The pink amaryllis in full bloom are seen in the back yard. A statue of St. Francis and other garden ornaments are placed at vantage points in the beds. In the first photo, Annette and her young grandson, Andrew Fay, proudly accept the garden of the month sign. In the second photo, the civic pride award was presented to Bella Salon and Spa owner Nicole Fontenot. The centerpiece of the garden is a fountain featuring a mother with small children displayed against a solid wall. The beds anchoring this scene have ornamental grasses, pink, yellow and white flowers and palm trees on either side. She plans to add a black iron fence against the wall. In front of the business is a table and two chairs and spring flower wreaths on the windows. The entrance is shaded with a green striped canopy.
