‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign underway in Ville Platte
The Ville Platte Police Department has received funding from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission for, and is participating in, the “Click It or Ticket” campaign through Sunday, June 1.
“Click It or Ticket” is a high visibility enforcement and public awareness campaign aimed at saving lives by getting more people to wear their seat belts. Officers of the Ville Platte Police Department will be working many overtime hours dedicated to enforcing the state’s seat belt laws. Enforcement includes saturation patrols, checkpoints and other tactics both day and night.
While this year’s “Click It or Ticket” campaign runs until June 1, officers are out enforcing seat belt laws year-round, day and night. Louisiana has a primary enforcement law for seat belts, meaning that officers can stop and ticket a driver for not complying with the law. State law requires all occupants to wear seat belts, even in the rear seats, and children under the age of 13 to wear a seat belt and/or be restrained by an age appropriate child safety seat regardless of seating positions.
Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue urges everyone to buckle up; it’s the law. He also added if anyone is unsure of how to properly wear restraints, stop by the Ville Platte Police Department and someone will assist you.
