October 22, 1922 - June 9, 2014
Funeral services were held for Carmen Adele Fruge, 91, of Ville Platte, at Our Lady Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Ville Platte at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 11. Burial followed in the Evangeline Memorial Park.
A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt, Ms. Fruge died Monday, June 9, 2014, at her residence, with her devoted daughter, Margaret, by her side. Upon graduating from Ville Platte High School, she and her sister, Valerie, attended Ursuline College in New Orleans, where Carmen majored in business. After completing two years at Ursuline College, Carmen then graduated from Louisiana State University of Baton Rouge after earning a degree in mathematics. She worked briefly as a legal secretary; she then changed careers and began teaching at Ville Platte High School. She then left teaching to devote herself to her greatest passion of all, the task of raising her young family. Their well being and happiness was the most important mission she ever undertook. Years later, she returned to teaching, finishing out her career as a math resource teacher at James Stephens.
Survivors include her precious daughter, Margaret F. Chapman and her husband, Randy, of Ville Platte. Her legacy will be carried forward by her much-loved grandchildren, Lance Chapman and his wife, Dana, Dr. Luke Chapman and his wife, Jennifer, and Adam Chapman and his wife, Kayla, all of Ville Platte, Emily Fruge Hood and her husband, Dominic, of Chicago, Illinois, and Jacques Fruge Jr. of Lafayette. She was further blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Ellis, Vivian, Jack, Abigail, Will and Drew Chapman. She will also be mourned by her only surviving sibling, Dwight LaFleur and his wife, Flo, of Ville Platte; and a sister in law, Virginia Fruge, also of Ville Platte. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends and former students that will not soon forget her sweet disposition and bright smile.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Jack Fruge Jr. and Christopher Fruge; her parents, Linus Burke and Lydie Dardeau LaFleur; and her siblings and their spouses, Valerie LaFleur Soileau and her husband, Duffy, Claudia LaFleur Hamilton and her husband, Bill, and her brother-in-law, Jimmy Fruge.
