Magnolia Garden Club presents awards

The Garden of the Month and Civic Pride Award of Merit for June was selected by a committee from the Magnolia Garden Club. The recipient of the Garden of the Month honor was the home of Robert and Karen Perron, and the Civic Pride Award was presented to Mercy Regional Medical Center. The Perron residence, first two photos, features a mailbox at the end of the driveway surrounded by day lilies. The drive also features blooming crepe myrtles underplanted with day lilies and roses. Flower beds surrounding the house are anchored at each end by a magnolia tree. Two black pots at the front steps feature day lilies. The beds include box woods, blue agapanthus, red petunias and pink and purple verbena. The focal point of the beds is a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary surrounded by pink and red roses with blue agapanthus on the side and wind chimes nearby. On the front porch, yellow and green lawn chairs welcome visitors to sit and enjoy the garden. A large, thriving vegetable garden is seen on the adjoining lot. The driveway to the hospital, last two photos, is lined with pink crepe myrtles. The island has purple crepe myrtles in full bloom and is underplanted with multi-colored periwinkles. The beds on either side of the entrance feature blooming crepe myrtles with blue agapanthus, colorful periwinkles, vareigated grass and Indian hawthorn as a green background planting. Garden Club members Lynn Landreneau and Theresa Attales pose in front of the winning locations.
