One man charged in two separate incidents

Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue reported that the same man was recently arrested in two separate cases.
On May 19, an officer with the Ville Platte Police Department made an attempt to stop a vehicle that turned onto Latour Street heading in the wrong direction on a one way lane of passage. As the vehicle approached, the officer stated it turned off of Latour and began evading the patrolman. The vehicle then led officers on a pursuit within the city limits of Ville Platte. The vehicle eventually stopped on South Stagg, where the suspect exited the vehicle and began to disobey the instructions of the officer. At that point, the subject fled on foot.
Police were able to identify the subject as Jaonie Arvie, 26, 6582 Pine Point Road, Ville Platte. A warrant was issued and Arvie was quickly arrested. He was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail and charged with resisting arrest, driving the wrong way on a one way lane for traffic, driving with a suspended license, speeding and possession of a Schedule II narcotic.
Arvie was released on a $2,500 bond set by 13th Judicial District Judge John Larry Vidrine.
In an unrelated incident on June 18, Arvie, was arrested for theft over $500 after stealing an item from a female victim’s purse. Arvie was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail, where he remains incarcerated on a $5,000 bond, also set by Judge John Larry Vidrine.
Lartigue reminds residents to remain aware of their surroundings and report suspicious activity in their neighborhoods. Be observant of unfamiliar people hanging around the area or going into someone’s yard. Report any suspicious activity by calling the Ville Platte Police Department at 363-1313. All callers will remain anonymous.
