Ville Platte Super 10’s take Sub-District
In Ville Platte, the season began for the Super teams in the eastern part of District Seven. The Sub-District tournament started up and things were rolling, despite the chance of some severe weather.
In the end, Ville Platte walked through the tournament with an undefeated record. They were 4-0 overall. After a bit of jitters in the first game, they started to produce almost four runs per game.
Against Mamou, Ville Platte plated three runs in the first inning. Ethan Fontenot singled to begin the game and Hayden Fontenot ripped a double right behind him. Issac Leger kept things going with a single of his own. Dylan Blevins slammed a shot right past the left fielder that emptied the runners left on the pads. When the dust settled, VP was up 3-0.
However, Mamou answered back with two runs of their own to make it a 3-2 contest. Essentially, that would be Mamou’s only real threat of the game. The Ville Platte pitching staff managed to slow things down a lot and keep Mamou from scoring until the fourth inning.
Ville Platte plated a run in the third inning. Ethan Fontenot scored on a fielder’s choice after reaching base on an error.
The inning that put the game out of reach was the fourth block. VP plated 10 runs and forced the 10-run mercy rule. That inning started with a single from Blevins and ended with the same. He ended the game with a 2-3 job at the plate. Hayden Fontenot and Issac Leger were also 2-3 at the plate. Sam Fontenot earned the win on the bump.
Ville Platte’s 14-3 win moved them to game two against Pine Prairie. The boys in blue and white picked up their second win with a 17-6 contest.
Hayden Fontenot earned the win on the hill for VP. The offense gave him considerable room when they scored seven runs in the first inning.
Ethan Fontenot walked to begin things in the bottom of the first inning. One out later, walks to Leger and Blevins loaded the bases with one out. A single from Amarion Watson, a walk issued to Landry Lafleur and then a single from Owen Smith continued the inning. Aiden Brignac walked and scored at the end of the inning to make it a 7-0 contest.
In the second inning, Ville Platte put up another seven runs. Leger walked to begin the inning with one out. Blevins came to the plate and was hit by a pitch. This helped to keep the inning moving right along for Ville Platte. Landry Lafleur reached on a fielder’s choice and scored when Smith ripped a triple. Brignac walked with two outs, bringing Sam Fontenot to the dish. Fontenot hammered a double to right center field, sending Brignac to the plate. Ethan Fontenot’s double allowed Sam Fontenot to score later in the inning. When it was all said and done, the host team had a 14-0 lead after two trips the plate.
Pine Prairie answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Elyah George doubled and scored on a single from Issac Fontenot. Draygan Guillory followed with a single to move runners into scoring position. Hits from Cole Willis and Hayden Bourgeous helped Pine Prairie plate two more runs and turn it into a 14-3 ball game.
In the third inning, Ville Platte posted three more runs. A single from Watson with one out got things going. Then Lafleur hit a double to the left center field wall, scoring Watson. Smith blasted a double of his own and Lafleur came home. Smith later scored after a pair of singles from Brignac and Sam Fontenot.
Pine Prairie fought back and scored three runs in the fourth inning. A series of walks to John Fontenot, Guillory and Noah Aguillard put Pine Prairie in business. A single from George also helped to give Pine Prairie a few runs in the inning.
Ethan Fontenot helped Ville Platte defeat Oberlin 10-0 in game three. He hurled a one-hitter and fanned seven batters.
The Ville Platte offense started a little slow and didn’t score a run until the fourth inning. They exploded for 10 runs in that inning.
It all started with a double from Ethan Fontenot and a single from Hayden Fontenot. Moments later, Blevins came to the plate. After going hitless in his first at bat, he made the next one count. He looked at four pitches and then did something 10-year-olds rarely do in Dixie Youth. He blasted a three-run home run over the left field wall. The homer put Ville Platte up 3-0 and the crowd erupted. Watson followed with a single and Smith walked one out later. Brignac picked up a few RBIs with a single to center field and Ville Platte cruised to a 5-0 lead. Three straight walks to Sam Fontenot, Ethan Fontenot and Hayden Fontenot scored two more runs and brought Issac Leger to the plate. His single scored one more run. Blevins came to the plate and ripped a double, scoring more runs for VP.
The 10-0 win put Ville Platte in position to win the tournament when they met Oakdale in the final game.
Amarion Watson went to the hill for Ville Platte. He kept the Oakdale boys off the scoreboard all game long. He fanned 12 batters and allowed just one hit.
The offense gave Watson a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first frame. Ethan Fontenot walked and scored after Issac Leger and Dylan Blevins each hit singles.
Ville Platte picked up another run in the bottom of the second inning. Sam Fontenot singled with two outs. He later came across the dish on a double from Gabe Courville.
After a scoreless third inning, the local boys extended their 2-0 lead. Landry Lafleur walked to begin the inning. One out later, Aiden Brignac doubled, bringing the speedy Lafleur home to score.
While Watson was mowing down Oakdale batters, the offense was preparing to ice the game. They scored three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hayden Fontenot singled at the top of line-up and Issac Leger followed with a double. The shot from Leger scored Fontenot and moved another runner into scoring position. Watson singled to left field to score Leger. Moments later, Watson scored on a passed ball.
Ville Platte’s 6-0 win gave them a top seed as they head to the District Seven Tournament for the Super 10’s. That tournament starts Thursday in Moss Bluff. Look for that bracket and information in Thursday’s sports section.
