VP Majors uncontested thus far
In Ville Platte, the Majors are rolling through the District Tournament and thus far, they have not been contested. They have 10-run ruled three out of four opponents and have scored 12 or more runs in every game thus far.
In game one, the Majors flew by Sulphur by a score of 12-0. Dru Scully got the win on the hill. On offense, the VP boys scored three runs in the first inning. Scully started off the inning with a walk and Christian Duplechin singled. Daegen Mitchell drove home a pair of runs with a single and an error. Later in the inning, Lucas Vallet singled and scored on a hit from Noah Soileau.
Five runs came home in the second inning. Conner Bordelon doubled to begin the inning and Cade Foret walked. Two outs later, a single from Scully and a double from Duplechin pushed a few more runs home. Mitchell would come to the plate and unload the bases with a triple and later scored himself on a passed ball.
Valet scored in the third inning and three more runs came home in the top of the fourth block. Duplechin and Mitchell were each 3-3 at the plate on the day.
VP torched Beauregard 16-6 in their second contest. Ville Platte went up 3-0 in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Vallet sent two runs home in the first inning when he tripled with two outs. A double from Jacques Leger brought Vallet around to score later in the inning.
Five runs scored in the second inning. Jaden Prudhomme reached on an error. Landon Deshotels came to the plate and smashed a two run home run. One out later, Wesley Marcantel and Connor Bordelon each scored and Duplechin walked. With the score 7-1, Mitchell singled home a run to make 8-1.
Noah Soileau tripled and scored in the third inning and then the local boys plated three more runs in the fourth block. Scully belted a two-run home run, taking away any momentum that Beauregard was building. Aiden Lejeune later walked and crossed the plate for VP.
The local boys iced the game with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Doubles from Leger and Duplechin helped VP go up and put the game in range of the 10-run mercy rule.
Ville Platte advanced to meet Oberlin in game three of the District Seven Tournament. VP took control of this game early and went on to a win. Daegan Mitchell got the win on the hill. He scattered just four hits in the shutout and fanned 11 batters.
Dru Scully led off the game with a solo home run and VP never looked back. In the second inning, Noah Soileau bunted for a base hit and later scored on a single from Wesley Marcantel.
Ville Platte added six runs in the fourth inning. Aiden Lejeune started it with a single and later in the inning, Leger and Soileau did the same. It was Soileau’s second bunt single of the game. A double from Cade Foret plated a pair of runs and brought the top of the line-up back to the plate. Scully ripped a double to score another run, and that brought up Duplechin. After four pitches, Duplechin slammed a shot over the center field wall.
Five runs came home in the top of the sixth inning to ice the game. Duplechin, Lejeune and Vallet each doubled in the inning.
Ville Platte met DeQuincy in the quarter-finals and won 14-6. That moved them to face DeRidder in the semi-finals late Wednesday night. Look for highlights on those two and the finals in Sunday’s sports page.
