Magnolia Garden Club presents awards

The Garden of the Month and Civic Pride Award of Merit for July was selected by a committee from the Magnolia Garden Club. The recipient of the Garden of the Month honor was the home of Dr. and Mrs. J.S. Fontenot, and the Civic Pride Award was presented to Evangeline Bank and Trust. The Fontenot residence, first two photos, features two azaleas near the street. Two boxwoods beckon one to the front door. Flower beds surround the house’s foundation with a white crepe myrtle at each corner of the home and two red camellias near the front door. Other flowers in the beds provide seasonal color and contrast. Those found there are striped grasses, white and purple petunias, striped liriope, sweetheart miniature red roses and loropetalum. Chrysanthemums are providing greenery now, but will replace the summer flowers in the fall. Evangeline Bank president Randy Chapman, third photo, accepted the award from garden club members. He is shown at the bank’s front entrance. The bank’s sign is anchored by green hedges and several colors of petunias filling the bed. Two large crepe myrtles frame the front entrance, and the beds surrounding the trees are filled with several colors of petunias, with Indian hawthorn providing greenery. A bed near the front door houses miniature red roses and bottle brush, while the background plants are striped grasses.
