VP Majors seek regional title

Its been a while since Ville Platte has made it big at the Dixie Youth Majors level. In fact, the local teams have had rough roads in the regional since the implementation of the best of three state championship series that follows the regional. The 2014 Ville Platte Majors look to change that this year when they head to Metairie this weekened to take part in the Dixie Youth Southern Regional. The District Seven Champions won their league crown last weekend and now look to advance further. However, they will have to get through a very intense regional.
The bracket includes the District Three Champion, which normally hails from the north and is one of the stronger teams. Also in the bracket is the host team Wally Pontiff. They are usually very tough and can cause a lot of havoc in the bracket.
Ville Platte begins their action Friday at 7 p.m. in Metairie at the Wally Pontiff Baseball Complex. Who do they play? None other than the host team. Pontiff and Ville Platte spent several seasons playing each other in tune-up games. The two powerhouses would trade going to each other’s place and battling one another. This time when they meet, it will be for real.
The winner of this game will advance in the winner’s bracket and play Saturday at 5 p.m, They will take on the winner of the District Six and District Five Runner-Up game.
A loss by VP drops them into the loser’s bracket game to meet the above mentioned game. The game will take place Saturday at 1 p.m.
The finals of the event will take place Tuesday, July 22nd at 5:30 p.m. There is an “if necessary” game slated to follow at 7:30 if the situation would present itself as it did in the district tournament.
