Chataignier council fails to draw a quorum
The Chataignier Village Council failed to have a quorum for the third time and was unable to review and approve the village’s 2013-2014 budget and to review and approve the 2014-2015 budget.
The village had scheduled special meetings on June 30, and July 1. Councilman Gail McDavid did attend the special meeting on Monday, July 21, which was scheduled to begin just before the regular meeting at 6 p.m., which also was cancelled due to lack of a quorum.
Mayor Jackie Thomas scheduled another special meeting for Wednesday, July 23, at 7 p.m. That meeting was to take up the budgets as well as updates on a USDA grant for a police car for the village and a grant for work on the village’s sewer system.
Without calling the meeting to order on Monday, the mayor and council, as well as people attending the meeting in the audience, heard from attorney Greg Vidrine, who is running for Ville Platte City Court judge. That court has jurisdiction over Chataignier and other communities outside Ville Platte.
