Evangeline Parish 4-H’ers attend 4-H University
“A Century of Leading, Competing, and Succeeding” was the theme of the 100th Annual 4-H University held on the Louisiana State University campus in Baton Rouge June 17-20. Forty-one 4-H’ers from Evangeline Parish participated this year. This year’s 4-H University participants did a terrific job representing Evangeline Parish. 4-H University is a state-wide competition for 4-H’ers from throughout the state. Louisiana 4-H is an educational program of the LSU AgCenter.

Also participating were: Cameron Berzas, Basile High, 4-H Has Talent; Kara Aguillard, Sacred Heart High, career preparation interview; Regan Fontenot, Sacred Heart High, dog science contest; Camille Bergeron, Zachary Fusilier and Jacques Fontenot, Sacred Heart, horticulture judging; Margaret Riley Foret and Natalie Mire, Sacred Heart High, insect identification; Kellie Barnes, Mamou High and Dreu Fontenot, Sacred Heart, meat identification; Tara Fontenot, Basile High and Rebecca Hollier, Sacred Heart High, photography; Connor Broussard, Basile High, Hailey Vidrine, Sacred Heart High, and Maggie McGehee, Basile High, Plant Science; and, Magen Ardoin, Sacred Heart High, and Torian Veillon, Sacred Heart High, public speaking, any other subject.
Participating in Clover College were Emilie Taylor, Vidrine Elementary; and Kara Guillory, Vidrine Elementary.
In addition to the contests and educational sessions, the following parish 4-H’ers were selected to serve on a state board: the 2014-15 State Fashion Board, Lelia Deville, Pine Prairie High; State Food and Fitness Board, Camille Bergeron, Sacred Heart High; and State Science, Engineering and Technology Board, Daniel Fontenot, Ville Platte High, Tre’ Fontenot, Sacred Heart High, and Heather Odom, Pine Prairie High.
Accompanying these 4-H’ers were adult volunteer leaders Angie Fusilier, Kimberly Deville, Bryson Belaire and James Barnes, along with 4-H agents Tina Guillory and Todd Fontenot.
We would like to congratulate these 4-H members for their hard work, effort and dedication as they prepared for their contests. A thank you goes to parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, sisters, brothers, friends and the community for encouraging and supporting these 4-H’ers in their quest during state competition. Also, a sincere “Thanks” to the people in our community and to the staff of the Evangeline Parish LSU AgCenter for helping train these young people and for the cooperation and support that was given.
