Annual Back to School Health Fair held at civic center

The Evangeline Parish Healthy Initiatives Coalition presents its sixth annual Back to School Health Information and Resource Fair Saturday, July 26, at the Northside Civic Center.
Kids were treated to several give-aways and had health checks. They received several publications by the Ville Platte Police Department.
Those publications covered bullying, making the right choices, avoiding drug abuse, what to do during a natural disaster, and an activity book produced by FEMA about being prepared for all situations.
One of the publications, “Let’s All Fight with advertisements of local businesses, had an introduction written by Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue. Part of that introduction stated, “The law is a deterrent, but education is our best protection. At every opportunity, we must inform the public of the problems and horrors connected with substance abuse.” The introduction also suggested students, parents, teachers or organizations should contact the police department for information about preventing alcohol or drug abuse.
