Demons try to earn second win against Tigers
For the Mamou Demons, a second win would go a long way salvaging a rebuilding season. The Demons lost to the Vinton Lions this past Friday by a score of 40-12. Mamou is now 1-7 on the year and will host the Lake Arthur Tigers on Thursday night. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
Against the Lions, Mamou garnered 195 total yards of offense. The passing game earned most of that yardage, as the Demons threw for 122 yards on six completions. Dylan Duplechin led Mamou offensively, completing six of 15 passes for 122 yards. Daniel Matthews rushed for 25 yards on five carries and caught two passes for 76 yards. Matthews rushed for a touchdown and had a touchdown reception.
Defensively, Mamou really had no answer for Vinton. The Lions compiled 512 yards of total offense. The running game particularly gave the Demons the most trouble, as Vinton rushed for 324 yards on 45 carries. Mamou was able to hold the Lions to only seven points in the first quarter and actually trailed by one point early in the second quarter.
However, Vinton reeled off 26 points in the remainder of the second quarter and the entire third quarter to pull away from the Demons
Mamou will now take on the Lake Arthur Tigers. The Tigers are 4-4 on the year and 1-2 in district 4-2A play. The only two common opponents for the two squads are district opponents Welsh and DeQuincy. Lake Arthur lost to Welsh 28-14 and defeated DeQuincy 30-28. Mamou lost to Welsh 55-0 and to DeQuincy 40-0.
