Demons end season with loss
The Mamou Demons had the enormous task of taking on the defending Class 2A state champion Kinder Yellow Jackets Friday night. An upset of Kinder would have definitely given the Demons a huge victory in what has been a rocky season. Unfortunately, Mamou could not overcome a 32 point halftime deficit and went down in defeat by the final score of 32-18. Mamou ends their season with a 1-9 record.
The Yellow Jackets wasted little time in putting the game away. Kinder scored twice in the first quarter and twice scored on the two point conversion to jump out to a 16-0 first quarter lead. The Jackets ran for a three yard touchdown and added a 26 yard pass for good measure for its two touchdowns in the quarter.
Kinder added two more scores in the second quarter. The first touchdown came on a 48 yard interception return. The two point conversion was good and the Yellow Jackets now led 24-0.
The second score of the quarter came on a 37 yard touchdown run. Once again, Kinder added the two point conversion and took the 32-0 lead into halftime.
Mamou came out in the second half determined to put points on the scoreboard and if anything to go down fighting. The third quarter saw the Demons put up their first points of the game. A 25-yard touchdown pass from Dylan Duplechin to Christopher Pitre cut the Kinder lead to 32-6. The extra point was no good and the scoreboard remained the same for the rest of the third quarter.
In the fourth and final quarter, the Demons were able to cut into the Yellow Jacket lead. A seven yard pitch and catch from Duplechin to Jacob Israel gave Mamou their second touchdown on the evening. The extra point was once again no good, but the Kinder lead had been cut to 32-12. The Demons added one more score before time expired in the game. Duplechin rumbled into the end zone from 14 yards out. The extra point failed for the third time and the final score stayed at 32-18 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.
Despite the record, one thing is for sure, the Demons played hard all season long. Head Coach Brian Brumfield and his staff worked very hard to get Mamou to improve from week to week. Anyone who watched the Demons play this season surely saw that improvement. The seniors show tremendous leadership and that will go a long way for the returning players next season. Hard work in the off season should lead to a very interesting 2015 football season for the Demons.
