Ville Platte cruises to win over Westminster
The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs hosted the Westminster Lady Crusaders in a non-district tilt here Monday night. The Lady Bulldogs moved out to a 10 point advantage in the first quarter and were never threatened in a 64-36 win.
Ville Platte now improves to 9-0 on the season. The first quarter was a very productive one for not only the Lady Bulldogs, but also for Deja McKinney. McKinney poured in 10 of her game high 25 points in the first period and propelled Ville Platte to an early 21-11 lead.
Miya McKinney and Kealogah Calvin chipped in four points each in the quarter.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to add to their lead in the second quarter. Another 10 point effort by McKinney, including two three-point baskets, gave Ville Platte the 37-17 lead at the end of the first half. The Lady Bulldog defense was smothering as they held Westminster to only six points in the second period.
Ville Platte was able to substitute at will in the third and fourth periods, as they outscored Westminster in each of the following periods. A 14-9 advantage extended the Lady Bulldogs lead to 51-26 at the end of the third quarter.
Five Ville Platte players netted points in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Bulldogs outpaced Westminster 13-10 in the final stanza and close out the game.
Deja McKinney led all scorers with 25 points. Miya McKinney scored 14 points for Ville Platte, while Kealogah Calvin tacked on 10 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
