Jones named to Honorable Mention All-SLC team

Former Ville Platte High Bulldog standout and current Northwestern Demon, Cody Jones, has earned a place on the Honorable Mention list as an All-Southland Conference performer. The Demon all-purpose player hauled in 29 receptions for 353 yards and six touchdowns. Jones also rushed for 68 yards on seven carries.
As a Bulldog, Jones started at quarterback all four years. During his tenure at the offensive helm, he accumulated 5,297 yards of passing and 50 throwing touchdowns. Jones also added 2,421 yards rushing and hit pay dirt 29 times on the ground. Altogether, Jones amassed 7,718 yards of total offense and accounted for 79 touchdowns in his high school career.
Jones signed with Northwestern State in 2012 and was moved to the position of slot receiver to make the most use of his talents. The Demons gave Jones the chance to play right from the start. As he moves into his senior season in 2015, Jones has hauled in 41 receptions for 431 yards in his career. He also has rushed 15 times for 95 yards.
Jones is also an outstanding student athlete. He has earned the Fall Commissioner’s Honor Roll the last two years and continues to maintain that level of academic excellence this year.
With another year left in his eligibility, Jones knows that he will have to show the leadership he was famous for in high school in order to get the Demons on the right track to a conference title. So far, Jones has proven that he can continue to improve with each season, even with an injury-plagued sophomore year.
Now that Jones enters his final campaign as a collegiate player, a few rewards would be a sweet end to a productive journey. A conference championship, a playoff appearance and a chance to play at the next level would be the icing on the cake for the Demon gridiron athlete. One thing is for sure, anyone who has ever come in contact with Mr. Cody Jones hopes that those accomplishments will come to fruition.
