Lady Panthers out powered by Lady Wildcats
The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers played basketball Friday night against the Livonia Lady Wildcats. The Lady Panthers were looking to start district play on the right path, but the Wildcats defense was too much for Pine Prairie. The Lady Panthers would come up short with a final score of 68-42.
From the opening tip both teams would trade baskets. Livonia would press causing Pine to turnover the ball several times giving the Wildcats a 18-7 lead at the end of the first period.
The second period would see the Lady Panthers defense pick apart Livonia’s lead. Tori Bordelon scored seven points in a two minute span closing the gap to 19-16 with 2:12 left in the half. After a Wildcat timeout, Livonia began to press again forcing more turnovers and extending their lead at halftime to 27-16.
The third period started with a steal and a layup by Taylor Deville for Pine Prairie. Then the next five minutes the Lady Panthers went ice cold from the field. Livonia took control scoring 12 straight points, giving them a 49-32 lead at the end of three quarters.
The final frame would not be much different. Pine Prairie could not stop Chelsea Washington of Livonia. She scored eight straight points, finishing the game with 30 points.
The Lady Panthers’ Brittany Rider led the team in the fourth period scoring four points. When the smoke would settle the Lady Panthers would fall short and start district 0-1.
Kaitlyn Bradley led all scores for the Lady Panthers, with Tori Bordelon contributing also. After the game, Pine Prairie Head Coach Renotta Edwards would say, “we had too many turnovers and we need to work on blocking out on the defensive side of the ball.”
