Sheran Melvin “Frenchie” Fontenot

BATON ROUGE - Funeral services will be held for Sheran Melvin “Frenchie” Fontenot, 91, of Baker, at St. Isidore Catholic Church in Baton Rouge at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 15. Burial with military honors will follow in the Louisiana National Cemetery.
A native of Ville Platte, Mr. Fontenot died Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Butterfly Wing of Hospice of Baton Rouge. He was a retired Boilermaker with Local 582, and a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Pennsylvania BB-38. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days. He loved God, his family and his country, and he was devoted to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Marjorie Y. Fontenot of Baker; one son, John Simoneaux and his wife, Kathy, of Denham Springs; one sister, Ruby Verna Rougeau of Pine Prairie; one brother, Mayner A. Fontenot and his wife, Margie, of Ville Platte; grandchildren, John M. Simoneaux, Jr. of Baton Rouge, Amy and Matt Smith of Watson and Gavin and Jana Simoneaux of Richmond, Texas; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Joseph Fontenot; his mother, Eula Buller Fontenot; his paternal grandfather, Eraste O. Fontenot; his paternal grandmother, Cora Martin Fontenot; his maternal grandfather, Arestile E. Buller; his maternal grandmother, Martha Durio Buller; one brother, Kermit W. Fontenot; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Willie Mae and Raymond F. Benson, and Robbie J. and George Deacon III, and Dudley Rougeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Sacred Heart School Foundation, 114 Trojan Lane, Ville Platte, La. 70586.
