Lady Demons run away from Welsh Tuesday

On Tuesday, the Mamou Lady Demons travelled to Welsh in hopes of keeping their district record perfect. At 2-0 in district play, a victory over the Lady Greyhounds would bring Mamou one step closer to that most coveted district title. The Lady Demons left no doubt that their mission would remain on track as they ran away with a 56-36 win.
Mamou and Welsh started the contest trying to get a feel for the flow of the game. The Lady Demons made a push as the quarter progressed. As the period ended, Mamou held a 10-4 lead over the Lady Greyhounds.
Capitalizing on the advantage gained in the first period, the Lady Demons pressed forward in the second quarter. Each club continued to exchange blows as the period advanced. With Mamou outscoring Welsh 14-13 in the stanza, no team really gained an advantage on the other. The score at the end of the first half was 24-17 in favor of the Lady Demons.
The second half saw Mamou begin to open up the lead over the Lady Greyhounds. In the third quarter, the Lady Demons outpaced Welsh 14-8 to extend their advantage to 38-25. The final quarter saw Mamou continue to control the game and advance their lead even farther. With an 18 point period, the Lady Demons finished the game by holding Welsh to only 11 points in the final quarter and pick up the big win.
Mamou had three players score in double digits in the contest. Darelzray Bellard led all Lady Demon scorers with 18 points. Arkie Thomas and Kiajah Wilson each added 14 points. Mamou will travel to Vinton on Friday to take on the Lady Lions in a district 4-2A contest.
