Lady Bulldogs take the win over Lady Panthers
Staying perfect in district play was on the minds of the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs as they travelled to Pine Prairie Tuesday to take on the Lady Panthers. The Lady Bulldogs came into the contest with a 3-0 district record and looked to continue on track to win another district title. Even with Head Coach Dot Doulet out again while recovering from pneumonia, Ville Platte stayed focused and on track taking the 73-35 win over the Lady Panthers.
As the first quarter opened, the Lady Bulldogs began their defensive domination of Pine Prairie. The Lady Panthers had a difficult time getting on track offensively, as they could only manage two points for the first five minutes of the period. Ville Platte put pressure on Pine Prairie on both sides of the court and took a 16-7 lead as the opening stanza closed out.
A 12 point run to start the second period saw the Lady Bulldogs extend their lead to 28-7 at the 5:08 mark. The Lady Panthers had the opportunity to get themselves back into the game when Ville Platte put them into the charity stripe bonus at the half way point of the quarter. However, missed free throws only allowed Pine Prairie to score 12 total points in the period. As the first half came to a close, the Lady Bulldogs held the 34-13 lead.
Ville Platte came out of the locker room and completely dominated the third quarter. The Lady Bulldogs opened the period on a 19-2 run and led 55-15 at the 2:19 mark of the stanza. The Lady Panthers were able to knock down five of the next seven points scored, but still trailed 57-20 as the third quarter ended.
With the game in control, Ville Platte utilized much of their bench players in the final quarter. The Lady Bulldog substitutes continued to put pressure, both offensively and defensively, on Pine Prairie. As the period progressed, Ville Platte not only sustained their lead, but also extended that lead. The Lady Bulldogs poured in 16 points in the stanza. The Lady Panthers also battled in the period, tacking on 15 points of their own to close out the game.
Leading the scoring for Ville Platte was Deja McKinney, who netted 18 points. Miya McKinney chipped in 14 points and Brianna Pete added 11 points for the Lady Bulldogs. Pine Prairie was led by Kaitlyn Bradley, who knocked in 14 points in the loss.
Ville Platte now moves to 20-4 on the year and 4-0 in district. They will travel to Livonia on Friday in continuing district action. The Lady Panthers drop to 4-15 on the year and 0-4 in district play. Pine Prairie will host the Lady Raiders of Northwest on Friday.
