Lady Raiders too much for the Lady Panthers
The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers took on the Northwest Lady Raiders Friday night. The Lady Panthers played hard the whole game, but fell short with a final score of 68-35.
The game started off with both teams trading baskets. Then Northwest would switch defenses to a full court press and score eight quick points, leading with a score of 10-2.
The Lady Panthers would finally break the press for an easy lay-up with four minutes left in the first period. The score was 10-4 in favor of Northwest. The Lady Raiders would cause a headache for Pine in the last four minutes, scoring another nine straight points. The Lady Panthers would hit a trisector with one minute remaining to cut the Lady Raider’s lead 19-7. Nothwest’s Kathan Arvie would hit a buzzer beater from the free throw line, making in 23-7 at the end of one.
In the second period, Brianna Bradley would start off with a long three pointer. Then Northwest would answer with a quick lay-up. Two more turnovers by the Lady Panthers gave the Lady Raiders four more points, leading 30-10 with 3:45 remaining till halftime. Pine Prairie’s Kayla Lazard would make a jump shot, making the score 30-12. Both teams would trade free throws. With two minutes to play in the second quarter, the score would be 30-12 in favor of Northwest. The Lady Raiders would then force two turnovers and capitalize on both. The Lady Panther’s Kayla Lazard would then make a lay-up as time expired. The score was 35-15 at the half with the Lady Panthers trailing behind.
The second half would start with Pine Prairie’s Lazard nailing a three pointer. Northwest’s Kathan Arvie would answer with her own three pointer. Two steals by Arvie would give the Lady Raiders another quick four points. Northwest would then extend their lead to 49-22 with 2:48 left in the third period. Brianna Bradley for the Lady Panthers would make a three pointer from the top of the key. Arvie would then answer with a jump shot at the buzzer, giving the Lady Raiders a 56-27 lead going into the final frame.
At the start of the fourth period, Pine’s Lazard would nail another three pointer. Nothwest would not let up, keeping the pressure on the Lady Panthers and forcing turnovers, leading the easy baskets. The Lady Panthers would come up short with a final score of 68-35. Pine Prairie was led on offense by Kayla Lazard and Brianna Bradley, both finishing up with 10 points. The Lady Panthers fall to 0-4 in district play.
