DeSelle to be closely monitored by police
Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division personnel say Phillip DeSelle will be closely monitored by law enforcement.
DeSelle was released from prison earlier this month after serving 24 years in prison for the murder of 11-year-old Averie Grace Evans. He registered as a sex offender and indicated he will reside off Highway 167 between Ville Platte and Bayou Chicot.
The sheriff’s office released a statement indicating that DeSelle will be required to check in with the sheriff’s office on a regular basis. Because he was convicted of second degree kidnapping, DeSelle had to register as a sex offender and comply with its requirements.
The statement also reported that DeSelle will be required to pay for notices that will be issued regarding his location. It reported that DeSelle will be required to carry a state identification card identifying him as a sex offender, and if issued a driver’s license, that also will identify him as a sex offender.
The sheriff’s office statement said DeSelle is prohibited to come within 1,000 feet of a school, day care center or playground because his victim was under the age of 13.
