Lady Bulldogs continue district dominance

The Ville Platte High Lady Bulldogs have not lost a district game in a very long time. That dominance continued on Friday as the Lady Bulldogs had no trouble in a 62-39 win over the Northwest Lady Raiders.
Unlike the previous six district contests, Ville Platte started quickly and kept their feet on the gas the entire game. The Lady Bulldogs are now 23-4 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in district 5-3A.
For the most part, Ville Platte has had trouble getting off to a fast start throughout the district season. The Lady Bulldogs changed that pattern against Northwest on Friday, as they came out on fire in the opening period.
The trio of Deja Mckinney, Miya McKinney and Brianna Pete combined to score all 22 first quarter points to lead the Lady Bulldog charge. Ville Platte held the Lady Raiders to 10 points and lead 22-10 at the end of the stanza.
It was not quite the same for the Lady Bulldogs in the second quarter. The blazing start was dampened with an eight-point second period. However, Ville Platte sustained their defensive effort, holding Northwest to only seven points. As the first half ended, the Lady Bulldogs led 30-17.
Ville Platte came out of the locker room seeking a repeat of the first period. Showing that the single-digit second quarter was a fluke, the Lady Bulldogs burned the nets for 18 points.
The catalyst for Ville Platte in the period was Kaebreonna Stevens, who poured in nine points. The Lady Raiders managed to knock in 14 points in the stanza, but still trailed 48-31 as the quarter came to a close.
Sustaining the momentum of the previous period, the Lady Bulldogs extended the lead in the final quarter. Ville Platte scored most of their points in the period at the free throw line, as Northwest was forced to foul in hopes of climbing back into the game. The Lady Bulldogs went 10-15 from the charity stripe and held the Lady Raiders to eight points in closing out the game.
Three Ville Platte players were able to score in double digits. Miya McKinney led all Lady Bulldogs with 18 points, while Deja McKinney netted 17 points. Pete added 12 points for Ville Platte.
The Lady Bulldogs will travel to Port Barre on Tuesday to face off against the Lady Red Devils in a district contest.
