Catholic Daughters hold annual banquet

The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Sacred Heart of Jesus Court #1674, held its annual banquet on Wednesday, February 4, at the Our Lady Queen of All Saints Family Life Center, with Regent Barbara Delafosse as Mistress of Ceremonies.
Father Brian Harrington, court chaplain, and fellow priests Father Jason Vidrine, Father Mitch Guidry and Father Brad Guillory were all in attendance.
For the first time, two Catholic Daughters of the Year were chosen, as there was a tie vote. The two winners, Leah Hollier and Carrie Deville, work together to complete and distribute food baskets and toys and gifts to children and teens for Christmas. They were presented a pen of recognition. Their families were in attendance at the banquet.
Charter member Celia Ardoin was in attendance, and the remaining two charter members, Jackie LeBas and Joycelyn Joubert, were absent.
Five Catholic Daughters were recognized for 50-year memberships beginning in 1965. They are Mary Alice Fontenot, Flo Lafleur, Theresa Reed, Germa Vidrine and Ruby Vidrine. A 50-year membership pen was presented to Ruby Vidrine. The others were not in attendance.
Emma Demourelle joined in 1990 and was recognized for her 25 years as a member. She was not present to receive her pen.
Members with perfect attendance were Velma Bernard, Barbara Delafosse, Belinda Fontenot, Edna Soileau, Peggy Soileau and Miranda Roberie. Those who missed only one meeting were Emma Joy Deshotel and Barbara Vidrine.
Father Harrington led a memorial prayer service for recently deceased member Yvette Soileau.
All four priests from both churches were recognized for Priest Appreciation Week. Those who helped decorate the hall and did other tasks to prepare for the night’s events were thanked by Delafosse. They were Edna Soileau and her husband, Derald, Peggy Soileau, Darlene Roberie, Kathy Coldiron, Annette Fontenot, Freida Coreil, Miranda Roberie and Tina Dupre for the programs, Belinda Fontenot for the flowers for the head table and numerous others who stayed to clean up the hall.
A delicious meal was enjoyed by all. Door prize winners were Arlene Fontenot, Cathy Coldiron, Janella Vidrine, Celia Ardoin, Verna Guillory, Ruby Vidrine, Romona Ortego, Belinda Fontenot, Sybil Veillon, Beth Jones, Edna Soileau, Freida Coreil, Shirley Cooper, Melanie Vidrine, Cynthia Soileau and Leah Hollier.
