Trojans successful in Kaplan Tournament
The Sacred Heart Trojans traveled to Kaplan on Friday and Saturday to participate in the Pirate baseball tournament. The Trojans had a successful outing, winning two out of the three games. With the wins, Sacred Heart is now 7-2 on the year. Here are the summaries from those tournament games.
On Friday, the Trojans took on a tough North Vermilion team out of class 3A. Sacred Heart could only muster one run against the Patriots in a 7-1 loss. Jacob L. Lafleur scored the only run of the game on a passed ball, after being hit by a pitch and advancing to third courtesy of two walks. Lafleur ended the game one for one with a run scored. Josh LaHaye picked up the loss on the mound, giving up four runs on four hits in four innings of work. LaHaye struck out one and walked one.
The Trojans first opponent on Saturday was the St. Martinville Tigers. Sacred Heart used a three run first to help pave their way to a 6-3 win over their class 4A opponent. The Trojans added one run in the fourth and two more in the fifth to seal the victory. Garrick Fontenot led all hitters going three for four with three runs batted in and a run scored. Evan Mire was two for three with a run scored. On the mound, Phillip Vidrine picked up the win, throwing four and two-thirds innings. Vidrine gave up two runs on three hits, struck out six and walked one in the game.
Sacred Heart’s final game came against the host team Kaplan. The Trojan bats were red hot in the contest, as Sacred Heart run-ruled the Pirates 13-2. The Trojans scored in every inning except the second against Kaplan. Caleb Soileau picked up the win, giving up one run on two hits in four innings of work. Soileau did not allow a walk, while striking out five. Evan Mire and Jacob L. Lafleur were both two for three as they combined to score four runs. Soileau went two for two at the plate, scoring a run and collecting three runs batted in.
