VP detective resigns after caught stealing on camera

Nathaniel Savoy, a senior detective with the Ville Platte Police Department, resigned last week after appearing in surveillance video allegedly taking 40 to 50 packs of roofing shingles from a local business valued at over $1,000. Savoy was in his police unit during the incident and reportedly operates a roofing business.
Savoy was allegedly captured with an unidentified accomplice, at 1 a.m. Monday, March 9, on the video.
Brooks David, with Louisiana State Police, stated that a complaint was received, but state police have not begun to review the accusations.
Savoy is also named in two pending lawsuits; one for a prank on a fellow officer that led to that officer’s resignation, and one for unlawful arrest in the shooting of Franco Doucet, in which police arrested and later released two individuals who were cleared of the charges in that case.
The Ville Platte Police Department did not respond to our request for information or comment on this case.
