Pine Priarie goes 1-2 at Eunice tournament
The Pine Prairie Panthers traveled to Eunice this past weekend to participate in the John R. Young tournament at Eunice High. The Panthers fell twice on Saturday, only to rebound with a huge victory over the host team on Sunday. Pine Prairie lost to Ascension Episcopal 7-1 and Cecilia 12-2 before defeating Eunice 6-4. With the 1-2 record in the tournament, the Panthers are now 5-6 on the season.
Despite an eight hit performance, Pine Prairie could only manage one run against Ascension Episcopal in game one on Saturday. The Panthers scored their only run in the top of the first when Josh Fontenot crossed the plate on a single by Dylan Doucet. The Gators took the lead for good in the bottom of the first, plating two runs. Episcopal then managed another run in the second and four more runs in the third to close out the scoring.
Wyatt Wainright took the loss on the hill, giving up two runs on four hits in one inning of work. Fontenot went two for three with a run scored to lead the Panthers at the plate.
Game two against Cecilia was a rough one for Pine Prairie. The Bulldogs only needed five innings to defeat the Panthers. Pine Prairie and Cecilia were tied at 1-1 at the end of the first inning. The Panthers took the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third, when Dylan Doucet doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. However, the Bulldogs plated 11 runs in the next two innings to run rule Pine Prairie.
Zach Lee picked up the loss on the hill, giving up 12 runs on five hits and eight walks. Dylan Doucet went two for two with a double and two runs scored to lead the Panthers. Matthew Rougeau was also two for two.
A tremendous effort in game three allowed Pine Prairie to pick up the win over class 4A Eunice High. The Panthers opened up a 5-3 lead over the Bobcats after three innings of play. Another run in the fourth gave Pine Prairie a three run cushion. Eunice responded with a run in the fifth, to cut the Panther advantage, but could not score in the last two innings.
Matthew Rougeau led all Pine Prairie batters, going three for four with an RBI and a run scored. Evan Lacross and Logan Blood were both two for three. Doucet recorded the win on the hill, throwing six complete innings. Doucet gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out six.
