Lady Panthers top Buckeyes at Tioga tourney

The Pine Prairie Lady Panthers paid a visit to Ball, Louisiana to participate in the Tioga softball Tournament this past weekend. The Lady Panthers played two games on Saturday, winning one out of two. Against the Grant Lady Cougars, Pine Prairie was unable to gain an advantage in a 6-3 loss. In the afternoon contest, the Lady Panthers scored early and often to defeat Buckeye by the score of 9-4. Pine Prairie is now 4-3 on the season.
Pine Prairie gave up two early runs against Buckeye in the top of the first. However, the Lady Panther offense kicked into high gear in the bottom of the inning, as Pine Prairie scored five runs to take the lead. Buckeye picked up a run in the top of the second to cut the lead to 5-3. The Lady Panthers got the run back in the bottom of the third to extend the lead back to four.
In the bottom of the fourth Pine Prairie tacked on two more runs to bring the score to 8-3. Buckeye rebounded with a run in the top of the fifth, only to have the Lady Panthers counteract that run in the bottom of the inning. Buckeye could not respond in the last two innings, as Pine Prairie pitching shut them down.
J. Chaddrick led all Lady Panther hitters, going two for four with two doubles and a run scored. R. Reed went two for four with a run scored. A Hammond picked up the win, throwing seven completed innings and striking out one. Stats were not available at press time for the game versus Grant.
