The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans took to the softball diamond this weekend at the Cajun Classic tournament hosted by the Mamou Lady Demons. The Lady Trojans went one for two, defeating Kinder 6-5 and losing to Iota 14-4. Sacred Heart now moves to 6-3 on the year. Here is a summary of the two games played on Saturday.
In the first contest, the Lady Trojans started slow and could not recover against the Iota Lady Bulldogs. Sacred Heart surrendered 11 runs in the first three innings before plating runs of their own. The Lady Trojans managed to push three runs across in the bottom of the third. Elizabeth Soileau led off with a single. After a Caroline Fontenot fly out, Gabbie Andrepont tripled, scoring Soileau. Kara Aguillard grounded out to first for the second out.
The next batter, Courtney Vidrine, singled, plating Andrepont. Vidrine advanced to second when Hannah Lemoine reached base on an error by the third baseman. Logan Shipp then promptly singled, driving in Vidrine for the final run of the inning.
Sacred Heart pushed another run across in the fifth. Andrepont singled to lead off the bottom of the inning. After two stolen bases, Andrepont sat on third base. With two outs, Lemoine doubled, scoring Andrepont for the final Lady Trojan run of the game. Iota added to their run total in the final three innings of play to close out the game.

Soileau took the loss on the hill, giving up 12 runs on 10 hits in three innings of work. Soileau walked one and struck out one in the game.
The second contest between Sacred Heart and Kinder was a barn burner. The Lady Trojans scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to seal the victory. The Lady Yellow Jackets plated runs in the first and second innings to ease out to a 3-0 advantage. That score remained until the bottom of the fourth, when Sacred Heart exploded for five runs.
Gabbie Andrepont led off the fourth with a single. After a Kara Aguillard line out, Caroline Fontenot singled, putting runners at first and second. Another single by Hannah Lemoine plated Andrepont and moved Fontenot to second base. Logan Shipp struck out to record the second out of the inning.
With two out Baylee Veillon and Sydney Fontenot roped back to back singles, scoring Fontenot and Lemoine. The big hit came when Elizabeth Soileau doubled to left field, pushing Veillon and Fontenot across the plate. Soileau was put out at third base to end the inning.
Neither team was able to score in the next two innings. The Lady Jackets, a perennial playoff team, managed to tie the game back up in the top of the seventh by adding two runs. Sacred Heart came to bat in the bottom of the inning only needing one run to garner the win. Sydney Soileau recorded the first out, hitting a fly ball to center field.
