Former VPPD detective charged by state police

Nathaniel Savoy, the former senior detective with the Ville Platte Police Department who was captured on surveillance footage taking shingles from a local business, has now been arrested, according to Louisiana State Police.
When The Gazette initially reported on the incident, in which Savoy was alleged to have stolen over $1,000 worth of roofing shingles, Louisiana State Police, Troop I’s, Brooks David stated they had received a complaint regarding the crime, but had not yet begun an investigation. Now, he said Savoy has been booked on charges of malfeasance in office (two counts), simple burglary, tampering with evidence, second-degree injuring public records, tampering with surveillance systems, filing false public records and simple criminal damage to property.
Savoy was allegedly captured on surveillance video at a local business at about 1 a.m. Monday, March 9, with an unidentified accomplice, who still has yet to be publicly identified. They reportedly took 40 to 50 packs of shingles while in a police unit.
David added the investigation is ongoing and would not comment further at this time.
