Mamou’s police chief completes training

Mamou Police Chief Robert McGee successfully completed a state mandated management course for new police chiefs earlier this month.
Chief McGee took the 40-hour course from March 16 to March 20. The course covered responsibilities of police chiefs and the limits of those responsibilities.
The course did not include matters relating to crime fighting, but McGee has had plenty of experience in that during his 19 years in law enforcement, mostly with the Mamou police but also a little over a year of part-time experience with the sheriff’s office.
McGee said law enforcement is rewarding because it involves helping people, and enhancing safety and peace in the community.
Mamou police have cracked major burglary and drug rings since he became chief at the beginning of the year, resulting in multiple arrests.
In fact, he said he has been given the nickname “Jaws” by criminals or potential criminals because of his vow to crack down on crime in the community.
The chief also said police need the public to work with them as a team, and he invites people to call or stop by his office to discuss issues confronting the community.
