Evangeline Parish weekly softball round up

The following are game summaries for softball games played this past week by the parish softball teams.
Sacred Heart
vs. Kinder
The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans faced off against perennial 2A powerhouse Kinder in the South Beauregard Tournament on Saturday. In a nine inning thriller, the Lady Trojans scored five runs in the top of the ninth to claim the 12-9 victory. Sacred Heart improves to 10-6 on the season with the win.
After a scoreless first inning, both squads were able to plate a single run in the second inning. The Lady Trojans scored another run in the top of the third to take the 2-1 lead. However, Kinder plated four runs in the bottom of the fourth to reclaim the advantage. Sacred Heart added two more runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Lady Jacket lead down to one.
With the game on the line, the Lady Trojans scored the tying run when Courtney Vidrine crossed the plate on a Kara Aguillard single. In the first extra frame, both teams plated two runs, pushing the game to the ninth inning. Sacred Heart exploded with five runs in the top of the inning to bring the score to 12-7. Kinder tried mounting a comeback by plating two runs in the bottom of the inning, but was shut down before the Lady Jackets could tie the game again.
Elizabeth Soileau went all nine innings on the mound, earning the win. Soileau gave up seven runs on 16 hits. She also struck out three and walked one.
Caroline Fontenot led all Lady Trojan hitters, going four for five with a run scored and a run batted in. Soileau was four for six with four runs batted in, while Hannah Lemoine went three for five with a run scored and a run batted in. Aguillard, Vidrine, Gabbie Andrepont and Sarah Soileau all had two hits apiece.
Sacred Heart
vs. Hackberry
The Lady Trojans completed play in the South Beauregard Tournament on Saturday evening by competing against the Hackberry Lady Mustangs. Sacred Heart scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning and suffered a 3-1 defeat. The Lady Trojans drop to 10-7 on the year with the loss.
The Lady Mustangs scored their first two runs of the game in the top of the third inning. Hackberry added another run in the top of the fourth to raise their lead to 3-0. Sacred Heart plated a run in the bottom of the seventh when Sydney Fontenot scored on an Erin Fontenot double.
Elizabeth Soileau and Baylee Veillion both took to the mound for the Lady Trojans. Soileau threw four innings, giving up four runs on eight hits. Veillion finished the game, allowing no runs on one hit and struck out two.
Caroline Fontenot went two for three at the plate to lead all Sacred Heart hitters. Sydney Fontenot, Erin Fontenot and Gabbie Andrepont were all one for three offensively.
Mamou
vs. Welsh (game 1)
The Mamou Lady Demons took on the Welsh Lady Greyhounds in a district doubleheader on Tuesday. One of the games was a regularly scheduled game; the second was a makeup game from earlier in the season due to weather conditions. With the win Mamou moves to 8-7 on the season and 5-0 in district.
In game one the Lady Demons got off to a quick lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first. Mamou extended their lead to 5-0, plating three more runs in the top of the fourth. Welsh cut back into the lead by scoring their lone run in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Demons topped off the scoring in the fifth, adding another run.
Amber Manuel collected the win on the mound, going seven complete innings, allowing one run on zero hits. Manuel struck out 13 and walked two. Leading the way at the plate for Mamou was Maggie Soileau who went three for four. Also collecting multiple hits for the Lady Demons were Manuel, Logan Thomas, Kelsie Mayeaux, Lauren Soileau and Katiee Bertrand.
Mamou
vs. Welsh (game 2)
In game two of the doubleheader, Mamou came out on fire at the plate, exploding for 16 runs in a run rule shut out of the Lady Greyhounds. The Lady Demons collected 11 hits in the game, including three extra base hits. The most damaging of the hits was a grand slam home run by Amber Manuel.
Mamou scored four runs in the first inning. The Lady Demons blew away Welsh in the second, plating eight runs. Mamou tacked on four more runs in the third inning to secure the run rule and the victory.
Maggie Soileau earned the win, pitching the one hit shutout. Soileau struck out four and walked one in the win. The Lady Demons had several players with multiple hits. Manuel, Madison Trahan, Logan Thomas and Kelsie Mayeaux each earned two hits apiece. Mamou improves to 9-7 on the year and 6-0 in district play.
