EPSB recognizes students

The Evangeline Parish School Board recognized three of its students Wednesday night, April 1, for their accomplishments in Beta and FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).
Louis Deville, a student from Pine Prairie High School, was honored for his invitation to compete at the National Beta Convention in Nashville, Tennessee. Deville placed in the History category of the state Beta competition.
The board also recognized McKenzie Fontenot and Jonathan Lee, both from Ville Platte High School, for their third place honors at the state FBLA conference. They will compete at the National FBLA Conference in Chicago, Illinois.
The board agreed to contribute $200 per student for their trips to these national competitions.
In other business, the board:
•Approved spending $28,800.03 for the removal and rerouting of water lines in the Chataignier Elementary campus’ main building. Assistant Superintendent Darwan Lazard said the water lines are old and suspended from the ceiling. A break in one of those lines, he said, would be disastrous. Once the lines have been removed and rerouted, a drop ceiling will be installed in Chataignier Elementary’s main building at a cost of $30,862.
•Learned from Superintendent Toni Hamlin that phase two of end-of-year testing will begin after students return from Easter vacation and will continue until the second week of May.
•Changed its upcoming regular meeting date due to Easter vacation. The board’s regular meeting, originally scheduled to be held on April 15, was moved to the following week and will now be held on Wednesday, April 22.
